The IFRC TISS Online Certificate course in Disaster Management provides an on line learning platform through the blend of academic excellence and practical experiences . It reaches individuals from various backgrounds. Having a diverse set of participants across the globe, the course aims to bridge the gap between theoretical approach to emergency management and practical approach to reduce vulnerabilities and building resilience.In 2012, the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) pooled their wealth of experience and expertise to establish a global Online Certificate Course in Disaster Management , anchored at TISS in Mumbai.
Seven cohorts have participated in the course so far, with the eight now in process and admission for the ninth beginning.

It is of 22 credits and broadly covers 8 modules over a period of 12 months. The assessment method includes assignments, quiz and discussion forum. Also, there is a component of supervised and graded term paper and field practicum of one month in the final module.
